Working Holiday New Zealand

Program Overview

Working Holiday NZ (also Malaysia Working Holiday Scheme) offers the opportunity for young Malaysians to travel around New Zealand, taking up temporary work while they are there. The visa enables you to undertake casual work and travel around New Zealand for up to 6 months, and you are also allowed to enroll in one training or study course of up to three months during your visit.

Types of Work You Can Find

    • For example:

    • Housekeeping
Location: Various hotels/resorts in New Zealand
      Wage: Approx. NZD12 per hour
Duties: Cleaning of rooms, changing bed linens and others
      Duration: At least 3 – 4 months

    • Food & Beverage
Location: Various food stores/restaurants in New Zealand
      Wage: Approx. NZD12 per hour
Duties: Taking orders, serving food, cleaning tables and others
      Duration: At lease 3 – 4 months

    • Shop Sales
Location: Various retail stores in New Zealand
      Wage: Approx. NZD12 per hour
Duties: Cashier, stocking, sales, general cleaning and others
      Duration: At lease 3 – 4 months
  • Fruit-Picking
The classic backpacker job in New Zealand is fruit picking and packing. The job involves pruning fruit trees, picking fruit and packaging into boxes. Make no mistake this is hard work for low pay but you usually get to have a laugh with other travellers and get a tan along the way!

    Hostel Work
Many travellers work in a hostel cleaning or on reception in return for free board and some spending money. A great way to meet people and become part of a small community of travellers.

    Hospitality/Hotel Work
Due to the booming tourist industry there are lots of opportunities to work in hotels, bars and restaurants throughout the year. If you can get some experience before you leave home it will help in the job hunt!
    Office/Temp Work
Much like in Britain you can find work through recruitment agencies in the major cities and towns.
